Traditional or trendy? That is the question you must ask yourself when choosing your jewelry style.

Whatever you decide, accessories say as much about your personal style as the clothes you wear. "Finding your personal style comes from inside," said Natalie Parman, vice president of merchandising at Jewelry Television. "The great thing about jewelry is that it lets women express their personalities, sometimes even more so than their wardrobes."

Expressing your personal style means wearing what you like and what you know makes you look good. That doesn't necessarily mean spending a huge amount of money. It's about expressing who you are whether you're wearing a designer label or a great find from a discount retailer, such as Walmart.

For example, if your job requires you to wear a dark, conservative suit when you're more comfortable in bright colors, you can let your style shine through by wearing a pair of sparkling earrings or a dazzling bracelet.

Pearls Offer Perennial Style

Pearls never go out of style. A single strand of pearls is a perfect compliment for everything from a little black cocktail dress to jeans and a t-shirt. Multi-colored pearls, either in single strands or groups, add pizzazz to any wardrobe. Don't just think pearl necklaces, either. Pearl rings, bracelets and earrings create different, individual looks.

"Opt for cultured or freshwater pearls instead of faux pearls, which can chip," Jewelry Television's Parman advised. Also look for pearls that are individually knotted between each pearl instead of just strung together one after the other. The individual knots are a sign of quality.

Briolette Creates Hot Jewelry Trend

If you're looking for something more trendy and modern, Briolette jewelry is the latest fashion jewelry trend. Created from tear- or pear-shaped gemstones cut in triangular facets, these pieces come in a rainbow of colors, including amethyst, peridot, garnet, citrine and tourmaline.

"Briolette is beautiful and dramatic" Parman said. Briolette provides an opportunity to express a fun and modern side of one's personality, but it can be extremely glamorous, depending on the piece.
